Shock add another WNBA champ to backcourt

Thursday, May 5, 2011

TULSA, Okla. (AP) ? The Tulsa Shock have signed guard Betty Lennox, adding another veteran and WNBA champion to their backcourt.

Head coach and general manager Nolan Richardson announced her signing Tuesday, saying Lennox is a "been there, done that player" who will bring veteran leadership and experience to a Shock team that had the fewest wins in the league last season.

Lennox was the WNBA Finals MVP in 2004, when she won the championship with the Seattle Storm.

Tulsa also recently signed Sheryl Swoopes, a three-time league MVP and four-time WNBA champion, to help out in the backcourt.

The 34-year-old Lennox, a native of Hugo in southeastern Oklahoma, has averaged 12.3 points over her 11 WNBA seasons. She missed all but 11 games last season after surgery on a torn meniscus in her left knee.
